Ancient Sea Explorers and the Creation Model

Archaeology, History

Ancient cultures were also strong sea explorers, likely out of necessity for food supplies, and particularly in coastal areas. Ancient cultures learned to build boats and sea vessels to go out to sea and capture a variety of seafood. These sea vessels were also used to travel across the sea, particularly in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Ocean. Evidence of ancient peoples migrating across islands and from landmass to landmass are significant. The ancient people of Madagascar are believed to have travelled from Indonesia by boat as early as 200 B.C. The ancient Australian Aboriginals are believed to have migrated from India. In addition, Asians are believed to have crossed from Russia into Alaska at one time in the past when sea level was lower. The ancient Polynesians were known as great sea explorers, as the Pacific Island life would require strong nautical skills to obtain food and to travel from one island to another. The ancient Hawaiians needed to be great sea explorers also. According to the Book of Genesis, Noah lived 350 years after the Flood, so he had time to teach others the art of shipbuilding. Therefore, sea travel likely increased dramatically after the Flood after new ship vessels were built and particularly after the Tower of Babel incident, when man spread throughout the Earth according to their language.

The Ancient Polynesians: World's Greatest Sea Explorers?
The ancient Polynesians were some of the world's greatest sea explorers as they traveled a vast area spanning from Madagascar to Hawaii to Easter Island in the South Pacific Ocean. The exploration of this vast area complies with the description of the spread of people around the world after the Tower of Babel incident described in the Book of Genesis. As Polynesians explored most of the South Pacific Ocean, some speculate that the Polynesians could have traveled to South America or even North America. If they did, the would likely have brought animals and crops with them and took some back to the islands. The history books seem to have a bias toward European explorers such as the Romans, the Spanish, and the Vikings, while seemingly overlooking the Polynesian explorers.

The sweet potato crop, which is known to be native to South America, has been determined by genetic and DNA evidence to have appeared in the Pacific Islands as early as 1000 A.D., giving further speculation that the Polynesians traveled to South America. Even the name used by native South Americans for the sweet potato has similarities to the name used by Polynesians for the crop. Europeans are believed to have introduced sweet potatoes to the Pacific and South Asia after the Polynesians.

The Polynesians are believed to have originated from Taiwan or Southeast Asia as early as 3,000 B.C. and began to spread further southeast, including the Philippines, Indonesia, New Guinea, and eventually the South Pacific Islands. Modern genetic analysis links Pacific Islanders and Polynesians to native South Americans, but some question whether the Polynesians came to South America or if South Americans came to Polynesia. Since Polynesian explorers were the stronger sea explorers and had much more experience travelling the open ocean, researchers are more likely to believe that the Polynesians are the ones that traveled to South America. If the Polynesians made it as far as Easter Island, as historians confirm, many speculate that it is not out of the question that the Polynesians could have made it to South America and possibly North America.
