Beluga Whale Intelligent Design

The Beluga whale lives in the Arctic waters and is classified with the Cetaceans and the Monodontidae family. The beluga size is relatively small among whales, up to 18 feet long and 3,500 pounds. The unique design of the beluga whale is a product of an Intelligent Designer. The unique anatomy of the beluga whale makes it difficult to classify and identify an evolutionary line, however creationists assert that the beluga whale is a unique creation. The beluga has many anatomical features that are unique even to other cetaceans. Evolutionists must explain why the beluga is so different and unique even among other whales in terms of its anatomy and abilities. Evolutionists claim that the beluga is closely related to the narwhal, the only two members of the Monodontidae family and another arctic whale with a long, thin horn on its head with many differences with the beluga. Evolutionists must also explain the activities of the beluga that are common in all whales, such as sleep and giving birth in the water.

Major unique features of the beluga include:

The beluga is the only whale or cetacean of white color, and this helps camouflage with the ice. Belugas are born dark gray and the white color takes up to eight years to appear.

The beluga has a globular, melon-shaped head that is unique among cetaceans. The beluga can change the shape of its head by blowing air. The beluga also has a small, distinct beak.

The beluga features a pair of small, paddle-like flippers used for locomotion. The fluke or tail of the beluga is uniquely curved along the trailing edges.

The beluga neck vertebrae are not fused together, allowing the beluga to turn its head in all directions unlike other cetaceans. This head-turning ability allows the beluga to see its environment without moving its whole body.

The beluga's absence of a dorsal fin is unique among cetaceans. A dorsal fin would cause extra heat loss in the arctic waters and therefore the beluga is perfectly designed for its environment. The lack of a dorsal fin also allows the beluga to swim under ice in its Arctic environment.

Belugas can swim backward, unlike most cetaceans. Belugas can dive 2,300 feet below the surface and up to 25 minutes before coming back up for air. Belugas are migratory between seasons to escape the freezing ice.

Belugas seasonally shed their skin, unlike other cetaceans, by rubbing against rocks.

The beluga has an echolocation sensory organ on the front of its head that is used to sense objects around its environment. In echolocation, sound waves are emitted from the animal, bounce off a nearby object and are returned to the animal's brain for processing and allow the animal to be aware of its surroundings and locate objects such as prey and finding holes in the above ice to breathe.

The beluga's sense of hearing is very strong, with a significantly larger range of frequency than humans.

The beluga has a thick layer of blubber like most whales and dolphins, one of the few similarities to other cetaceans, in addition to the blowhole on top of its head. Belugas sleep like most whales, with half of its brain asleep and the other half stays alert. Belugas also give birth like most whales, in the water. The general anatomy and behavior of whales in general is difficult for evolutionist scientists to explain.

Belugas are social animals and form groups with other belugas of up to 100 or more. The beluga makes multiple complex and different high-pitched calls or noises to communicate with other belugas and is known as the "sea canary." Belugas can begin these vocalizations within a few hours of birth.

All of the unique features, abilities, and behaviors of the beluga whale differentiate it from other animals and even other whales, making an evolutionary line difficult to identify. The beluga is a unique creation from an Intelligent Designer.
