Bible
The Book of Matthew was written primarily to a Jewish and Jewish Christian audience and marks the transition from the Old Testament to the New Testament. The Book of Matthew contains many Old Testament references to Jesus and Israel and therefore marks a good transition from the Old and New Testament and is why it is included as the first book of the New Testament. The author wanted to show Jews that Jesus was their Messiah and included as many Old Testament references as possible, over 130 of them. The ancestral line was even included in the first chapter to connect Jesus to the Jewish patriarchs. The Book of Matthew is credited to Matthew, a tax collector who was called to be a disciple of Jesus. The date of the writing of the Book of Matthew is uncertain, but believed to be between 70 to 100 A.D. Matthew was also called Levi.
