Bible
A cherub (cherubim=plural) is an angelic, heavenly type of being or figure with wings described in the Biblical scriptures as serving God. Cherubim figures were also made or constructed on the Ark of the Covenant, the Tabernacle, and Temple of the Lord (Solomon's Temple), symbolizing the presence of God.
The first mention in the Bible of a cherub is in Genesis 3:24, where God placed cherubim to guard the Garden of Eden after Adam and Eve were removed.
24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life. Genesis 3:24.
In Ezekiel 10, cherubim appear as the Glory of the Lord departed from the Temple:
1 Then I looked, and, behold, in the firmament that was above the head of the cherubims there appeared over them as it were a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne. Ezekiel 10:1.
Ezekiel 11:22:
22 Then did the cherubims lift up their wings, and the wheels beside them; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above.
The Lord Existed between the cherubim: The Lord is described as being in between the cherubim several times in the Bible.
Cherubim are also described in Psalm 99:
1 The Lord reigneth; let the people tremble: he sitteth between the cherubims; let the earth be moved. Psalm 99:1.
Also in Psalm 80:
1 Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest between the cherubims, shine forth. Psalm 80:1.
Cherubim were also made or constructed on the Ark of the Covenant and in the Temple of the Lord to symbolize the presence of God.
