Biology
The climbing perch (anabas testudineus), is an unusual ray-finned fish that is known for its ability to stay out of the water for significant periods of time depending on the conditions.
The climbing perch, a 10 inch fish, is native to Asia, found from India to China and Indonesia in freshwater and brackish environments, canals, estuaries, lakes, ponds, large rivers and swamps. They eat other fish, shrimp, and aquatic plants.
The climbing perch has reached the northern Australia waters and is considered an invasive species and has a predatory nature.
During drier conditions on land, this fish will bury itself in the mud to stay moist. These fish remain buried under mud in the dry season, possessing an accessory air-breathing organ and are able to live for days and weeks out of water if the air breathing organs are kept moist.
The climbing perch was once thought to be able to climb trees because one was found in a tree, but it was likely transported there by a bird.
The climbing perch is known for its ability to "walk" on its pectoral fins, but has no legs. It looks more like awkwardly crawling or wiggling on the ground as any fish would with its tail and body doing most of the work.
The climbing perch is not evolution in action but a uniquely designed fish designed by a Powerful Creator.
