Dolphin Evolution or Creation?

Dolphins are aquatic mammals classified into the order Cetacea, which includes the whales and porpoises. All dolphins live in an aquatic environment, particularly the sea or ocean, but some live in river systems. The topic of the origin of dolphins is an interesting one, as mainstream scientists believe that the ancestors of dolphins had four legs and were land mammals. Somehow, according to mainstream scientists, dolphins lost their legs and became aquatic-based mammals with two limbs or flippers, fins, and a streamlined body which aids in movement within water. The process of land mammals losing their legs and becoming aquatic mammals is proposed to have occurred during a 5 to 10 million year transition phase beginning roughly 50 million years ago according to standard macro-evolution doctrine as dolphin ancestors somehow needed to enter the water permanently. The need for food or some other need is commonly given for the reason dolphin ancestors entered the water and lost their legs.

Creationists, however, believe that this process is impossible and believe that dolphins were created as is during a six-day special creation event around 6,000 years ago.  Creationists insist that the unique features of dolphins reflect the design of a powerful and capable creator that created this species along with many other living biological species fully formed in much the same form as is seen today. Of course, there have been minor adaptations over the last 6,000 years, which were made possible by way of the genetic information given to these animals during their creation that allowed them to adjust or adapt to their environment. As mentioned earlier, while most dolphins live in the sea or ocean, some live in river systems, which present a different environment. Some dolphins can swim up to 55 kilometers per hour and their sharp teeth help in catching prey, which commonly consists of fish and squid. Larger members of the dolphin family including the killer whale eat larger sea creatures. Dolphins also have a strong hearing system.

In addition to explaining how dolphins lost their back legs, evolutionists must also explain the development of their hearing system, their streamlined body shape, the movement of the nasal openings to the top of the head, and the change of the two front limbs into flippers. In addition, evolutionists must explain the appearance of the tail fin. Dolphins also breathe air from a blowhole located on top of their head, which is also another unique feature that would have to be added from its supposed terrestrial history. Evolutionists must also explain how the dolphin body can spend so much time in the water without coming on land and how its body contains a thick layer of fat known as a "blubber" that aids in buoyancy and with insulation.

Dolphins also have a unique ability called echolocation, which is a natural sonar system that helps in orientation and locating objects. Scientists also believe that dolphins are highly intelligent, particularly because of the method in which dolphins communicate with fellow dolphins. Dolphins communicate by using different clicks, or whistle-like sounds. The dolphin sleeping patterns are also unique, as they must sleep with their blowhole on their head above water in order to breathe. Dolphins are able to sleep while leaving their brains partially conscious in order to keep from drowning and watching for possible predators. The dolphin's tail has a "kick reflex" that keeps the body from sinking and keeps the blowhole above water during sleep. All of these unique features point toward a special creation 6,000 years ago and not millions of years of evolution as the standard, mainstream science community proposes.
