Dragonfly Evolution or Creation?

Biology

The dragonfly is a flying insect of the order Odonata, infraorder Anisoptera. The most intriguing features of the dragonfly are its complex eyes, its large, transparent, strong wings, and its long body. Evolutionists believe that dragonflies appeared on Earth over 300 million years ago, however creationists believe that insects were created some 6,000 years ago during Creation Week according to the Book of Genesis. The dragonfly is a testament to God's design just as all life on Earth.

Although today's dragonflies have wingspans from two to five inches, fossilized dragonflies were up to two feet or 24 inches long, giving strong evidence of the Genesis Flood and the different environmental conditions that enabled larger sizes in animals. Scientists believe that oxygen levels were higher during this time and as a result animals could grow to larger sizes.

Dragonflies go through a larval stage for up to two years when they are first hatched where it is an aquatic creature and eats sea creatures. After the larval stage is finished, the larva crawls out of the water, its exoskeleton cracks open, and the dragonfly abdomen extends out, in addition to its four wings. The dragonfly larvae eats small fish and tadpoles.

Dragonflies can fly vertically up and down like a helicopter. In fact, its body resembles a man-made helicopter. The helicopter was actually designed with help from the design of the dragonfly. Each of its four wings can move independently and can be rotated on the axis. In addition to flying up and down, the dragonfly can fly backward, stop and hover in one spot in the air, and make sharp u-shaped turns while flying. Dragonflies catch their prey (mostly mosquitoes) while flying and even can mate while flying. Dragonflies can also migrate several miles per day and can migrate up to thousands of miles during a migration trip. Dragonflies can fly up to 30 miles per hour.

The dragonfly has one of the most complex eyes of any insect. The dragonfly eye makes up the majority of its head and therefore the dragonfly can see in almost any direction. The dragonfly has large, compound eyes that are made up of thousands of smaller eyes and 30,000 facets. Scientists believe that the dragonfly is one of the most complex if not the most complex in the animal world. While most animals and humans see colors as a combination of red, blue, and green, the dragonfly can see more than a dozen different colors and scientists also believe that they can see ultraviolet light. Dragonflies can see their prey up to 40 feet away.
