Timeline: 486-465 B.C. (Reign of Persian King Xerxes 1)
The Book of Esther describes the account of a Jewish woman living in the Persian Empire who became Queen and who saved her people, the Jews, from their enemies. In addition, the book has parallels to Jesus Christ.
The Persian King Xerxes is unhappy with his wife Vashti for refusing to appear at the king's banquet and replaced her with Esther, a Jewish woman would would become queen. Esther was an orphan who was a young woman that Mordecai, son of Jair (Tribe of Benjamin), had adopted, who was the daughter of his uncle Abihail.

Esther Chosen as Queen, Mordecai Discovered Conspiracy Against King: Esther 2
Esther was chosen as Queen, King did not know she was Jewish. Mordecai discovered and told Esther of a plot against the King.
Haman's Plot to Destroy Jews in the Empire: Esther 3
The king promoted Haman to main advisor, but Mordecai would not bow to him. Haman plotted to destroy the Jews and the King approved.
The King's main advisor, Haman, had a bad relationship with Mordecai because he wouldn't bow to him or pay him honor after being honored by the King over all of the nobles. After finding out Mordecai was Jewish, Haman attempted to have the Jews in the kingdom killed in retaliation, but Esther was later able to stop the plan.
Mordecai Persuaded Esther to Help Against Haman's Plot: Esther 4
Mordecai discusses with Esther about Haman's plot and how to stop it. Mordecai asked Esther to convince the King against the plot against Jews.
Esther's Request to the King, Haman's Rage: Esther 5
Esther requests a banquet with the king and to invite Haman. When Mordecai continues to ignore Haman and not bow to him, Haman is enraged and continued the plot against Mordecai, at the suggestion of his wife and friends.
Mordecai Honored by the King: Esther 6
The King honored Mordecai for discovering the previous plot against the king after reading the book of chronicles. Mordecai was honored for his work by the KIng and tells Haman to also honor Mordecai. Haman, who mistakenly thought he was going to be honored and planned to continue his plot against Mordecai, was humiliated.
Esther Reveals Haman's Plot to the King, Haman Executed: Esther 7
Esther revealed Haman's plot against the Jews to the King at the banquet. Haman was executed for his plot against the Jews.
King's Edict Protecting Jews in the Empire: Esther 8
The King issued an edict protecting Jews in the Empire and allowing them to defend themselves. Haman's estate was given to Esther and she appointed Mordecai over the estate.
Jews Avenge Enemies, Purim Celebration Established: Esther 9
Ester secured permission from the King for Jews in the empire to defend themselves against their enemies and to destroy them, which they did. Mordecai established Purim, the Jewish celebration and annual feast regarding Esther's saving of the Jewish people from Haman's plot.
The Legacy of Mordecai: Esther 10
Mordecai was placed next to the King as chief advisor for his work. In addition, Esther secured permission for the Jews to defend themselves, have their enemies killed, Mordecai is made the king's highest advisor, and Haman is put to death. Haman's estate is given to Esther and Mordecai was appointed over the estate.
Parallels with Jesus: The account of Esther and the Jewish people has parallels to Jesus Christ. Just as Esther saved her people from death, Jesus saved his people and all mankind from sin and death.
