Bible
The account of the Genesis Flood in the Book of Genesis begins as mankind on earth had become wicked and God decided to destroy mankind by wiping them off the earth with a global flood. All mankind and every air-breathing animal would be destroyed except a remnant that would be spared in a large boat called the Ark. Noah and his family, including himself, his wife, his three sons and his son's wives would be spared along with pairs of all major air-breathing animals on earth.
God instructed Noah how to build the Ark, including what materials to obtain and how much along with the proper dimensions. After Noah's family entered the ark and the animals including all supplies, the "springs of the great deep" opened along with "the windows of heaven" and 40 days of rain. The waters rose until the highest peaks were covered and all life perished on earth outside the ark. The flood waters stayed for 150 days and God sent a wind over the earth to help the waters recede. After 10 months of the flood the first mountain peaks appeared. Noah opened a window in the ark and sent a dove to search for dry land. After several attempts, it returned with an olive leaf in its beak. The Ark landed on the mountains of Ararat and after exiting the Ark, Noah built an altar for the Lord.
