The Garden of Eden and the Knowledge of Good and Evil

The connection between the Garden of Eden’s Tree of Knowledge and the secular culture of today is very interesting. Today's modern universities have rejected God, the same universities that were once founded by Christian denominations several centuries ago. By the mid-19th century, universities were endorsing Charles Darwin’s The Origin of Species. University professors today openly ridicule students who believe in the Bible and Bible-believing students are even labeled as "extreme." Today's universities have accepted Darwinian evolution and uniformitarianism-the belief that today's biologic and geologic processes operate at the same rates as throughout history-as fact. In other words, every scientific explanation must be totally naturalistic and cannot include any supernatural forces not currently seen on Earth today. Therefore every scientific explanation must have a naturalistic solution including the creation of the Earth and the universe. Evolution-supporting scientists believe that they can explain the creation of life, the Earth, and the universe without mention of God. In other words, "We don't need God. We can be like God ourselves. We can become gods." Sound familiar? Read Genesis 3:2-5:
2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
The Book of Genesis also describes the corruptness of man and the flood that was sent as a result. After the flood, man became corrupt again and built a "tower to heaven." Genesis 11 describes the building of a city with a tower that reached to the heavens:
"Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth." Genesis 11:4.
The Book of Genesis describes how God confused their languages and how they had to stop building the city. God had instructed the people to spread throughout the earth but the people rebelled and wanted to build the city and the tower. Throughout history we have seen how nations who rejected God were destroyed. From Egypt to Rome to the ancient Native Americans, nations who rejected God and became corrupt and evil suffered a catastrophic future. Throughout 6,000 years of human history, every nation believed in some form of a higher power: the gods of ancient Greece, Rome, India, and China. The ancient Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan, Mexico is known as the site "where men became gods." Of course, this culture did not last and its builders are a mystery. The ancient Egyptians made their pharaohs into gods and reportedly built pyramids for them. That nation is a distant memory also.
Every nation believed in a higher power until the 19th century and the rise of Darwinism, which influenced the thinking of not only scientists but philosophers, academians, and even political leaders. The 19th century also saw the rise of communism, led by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Many believe the rise of communism was influenced by the ideas of Darwinism and evolution. Many disease epidemics occurred in the 19th century, including typhoid, tuberculosis, smallpox, yellow fever, and cholera. Then of course in the 20th century two world wars were fought and universities continued to promote Darwinism and evolution. Some even believe that Adolf Hitler was influenced by Darwinism. The 20th century also saw the rise in alcohol abuse after Prohibition, the rise in drug use, and the sexual revolution along with the rise of abortions. History has shown those who reject Biblical teachings will become corrupt and evil and will suffer consequences as those who reject the God of the Bible will be punished and their lives will be cursed, just as the scripture teaches.
