Bible
The prophet Isaiah warned the people of the punishment for their sins as they had been rebellious in their ways and rejected the God that created them and delivered them from the land of Egypt. However, Isaiah mentions several prophetic verses of the coming Messiah. One of the most well-known is the verse 9:6-7 describing the future Messiah, Jesus Christ:
6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the greatness of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
will accomplish this.
These verses mention that a child is born and specifically mention "a son," a reference to the Son of God. The verses mention that the government will be on his shoulder, and readers of the gospels will easily see this. Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace are names and titles that have been given to Jesus Christ. Isaiah also mentions the "greatness of his government and peace there will be no end." This is obviously referring to the future kingdom that is set up by Jesus Christ after the Second Coming. Jesus was descended from the line of David according to the chronological books of the Old Testament and the verses explain how Jesus will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom forever. Isaiah explains in the last line of the verse that "the zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this" and therefore God will enable these things to happen and come to pass. While Israel is being held and controlled by a foreign power and their land has been taken from them because of their unfaithfulness, just as God promised, God also has a plan to restore Israel and the prophetic verses explain how the nation of Israel will be restored and the Lord Jesus Christ will rule forever.
The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls revealed multiple copies of the Book of Isaiah, including "the Isaiah Scroll," which is the oldest surviving manuscript of the Book of Isaiah, dating from about 150 B.C. to 100 B.C. When it was found, it was determined to be more than 1,000 years older than the previously oldest known copy of Isaiah. The scroll is written in Hebrew and contains almost the entire Book of Isaiah, with the exception of a few damaged sections, and is considered one of the best preserved of the scrolls. The text is also very similar to the Masoretic text, the authoritative Hebrew and Aramaic text of the 24 books of Tanakh for Rabbinic Judaism, giving strong evidence of its accuracy. Because of this accuracy, and also because of the multiple messianic references included in the text, strong evidence can be made for the accuracy of both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. The Book of Isaiah was originally written more than 700 years before the birth of Jesus Christ and the oldest written copy in existence today is at least 100 years older than the Jesus' birth, making the prophetic words of this book some of the most important in the Biblical Text.
