Bible
This epistle is historically credited to James, the brother of Jesus, but could possibly have been another James who was a follower of Jesus in the first century church (65-85 A.D.) Because of the style of writing, some believe that Jesus' brother was not the author and another follower of Jesus wrote the epistle. Some also believe that James the Apostle was the author. However, in the opening of the epistle, James does not introduce himself as the brother of Jesus or an Apostle, but simply as:
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
James 1 Trials, Temptations, and the Faith
12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
James 2 Don't Favor the Rich, Faith and Works, The Faith of Abraham and Rahab
5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?
24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
James 3 The Tongue is a Fire, Words of Wisdom
5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
James 4 Submit to God, Resist Sin, The Future is God's Will
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 5 Warning to the Rich, Suffering, Faith and Prayer
1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.
