In the Book of Jeremiah, the Prophet tells of the Future Messiah and the Restoration of Israel.
Jeremiah (son of Hilkiah) was a Jewish prophet of the Lord who lived 650-570 B.C., when the siege and capture of Jerusalem by the Babylonians in 586 B.C. occurred. Jeremiah preached against idolatry, greed, and false prophets. Jeremiah was called by God to be a prophet (Jeremiah 1:2-3) and endured persecution to his ministry, including beating, imprisonment, and being thrown into a cistern. Jeremiah was one of the most persecuted prophets in the Old Testament. Jeremiah served alongside kings Josiah, Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, and Zedekiah. Jeremiah was called the "weeping prophet" because of the great sorrow he felt over the destruction of his people's kingdom by the Babylonians and King Nebuchadnezzar II.

4 Then the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, 5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. Jeremiah 1:4-5.
