Natural Arches

Natural Arches and Bridges Give Strong Evidence for Creation

by Owen Borville

Erosional features that give strong evidence of the global Genesis Flood and the young earth model are found around the earth. Examples of erosional features that are found around the earth include natural arches and bridges, which span hundreds of feet in height and length. It is difficult to conceive of any other force that could be responsible for the formation of these unique features other than a catastrophic flooding event. While most notably photographed in the western United States, these natural bridges and arches are found in many places around the world, including every continent. Geologist Andrew Snelling describes the formation of these features as an extensive sandstone layer was deposited during the Flood over softer salt beds. The underlying salt material exerted force on the upper sandstone layers and caused it to crack into parallel ridges where flowing water would later erode the base of these ridges and produce the openings of the natural bridges. (1) Many of these natural bridges and arches have collapsed over the years but many also remain.

Arches National Park of Utah and North America has over 2,000 natural rock arches that evolutionists believe formed over millions of years ago. However, it has been noted that 43 of these arches have collapsed during a 45 year period (1970-2015), a rate of about one collapse per year. (2) Within 2,000 years, all of the arches should have collapsed. However,  many are still standing. Therefore, the collapse rate of natural arches does not fit the uniformitarian time scale of millions of years but fits the Biblical time frame.

The the "Twelve Apostles" of southeast Australia near Melbourne show a similar rate of collapse, as one of these erosional remnant towers adjacent to the rocky coastline collapsed in 2005. According to the evolutionist uniformitarian time scale, these towers were formed 20 million years ago. However, at the rapid rate of erosion observed, these towers should all have collapsed or eroded down after millions of years of erosion but yet they still stand and give a testament to their youth. Near the apostles a natural arch in Victoria, Australia collapsed in 2009, further showing the rapid of erosion of these structures.
