Octopus Evolution or Creation?
by Owen Borville
The octopus is known as an eight-legged sea creature with a large rounded head and is grouped within the class Cephalopoda along with the squids, cuttlefish, and nautiloids while it is classified in the order Octopoda. This unique creature has many interesting features on its body that give strong evidence for design by an intelligent force much stronger than the random acts of evolution. The body of the octopus gives strong evidence of an intelligently designed creature created by an intelligent force. In addition to their eight legs, the octopus has three hearts, blue blood, and has a boneless body, This soft, boneless body enables the octopus to travel through small spaces and to be very flexible. The octopus can eject a liquid chemical to deter predators. The octopus is said to have a complicated nervous system inside each leg. Actually, the octopus is said to have nine brains as its nervous system and nerve cells extends from each leg into the head. This complicated nervous system causes scientists to assume their intelligence is very high and the Octopus has been known to use tools with their legs. The octopus has three hearts, but each of these works together, therefore someone could say that these three hearts are three segments of one heart. Two hearts pump blood into the gills, while the third heart circulates the blood to the rest of the body. Their blood is also adapted to low temperatures and low oxygen amounts in the deep ocean where the octopus lives. Some octopuses live in shallow, warmer water, however. The long arms of the octopus enable it to grab food and the large suction cups on each leg help in capturing their next meal.
The octopus has been featured on ancient artwork and pottery as this creature has intrigued humans from historical times to the present. Mainstream scientists continue to embrace evolution, however the complexity of this one animal species is difficult to describe with random chance evolutionist doctrine. Adaptations can occur, such as to temperature and oxygen levels, but having nine brains and three hearts is not a random accident. Evolutionists claim that octopus fossils date to 300 million years ago, but these fossils look similar to modern fossils, which questions the idea of evolution altogether. God has a plan and a Grand Design. God gave the octopus just what it needed to survive in its environment. If there was evolution, there would be no octopus as it could never survive to make it where it is now. The octopus is not the result of "advanced cognitive evolution" but is a uniquely designed creature. The diversity of marine life and life in general is a testament to the awesome ability of God's design and his creation. God saw all of his creation and saw that it was very good (Genesis 1:31).
