Owl Evolution or Creation?

Owls are unique animals that are classified with birds but have unusual features and behaviors that define their identity and promote the creation model based on a special creation event 6,000 years ago. Owls are nocturnal animals that are active at night and eat insects, small mammals, and birds. Some owls even eat other owls. Some owl species hunt, fish, and owls are capable of doing this by using their powerful claws called talons that help them catch their next meal. Owls are known for their distinct bodies, which are larger than most birds and feature a large head with a rounded, flat face, along with large eyes.

One unique feature of owls is that they can turn their head almost all the way around. Specifically, owls can turn their heads a total of 270 degrees, not quite the 360 degrees needed to go all the way around. Actually, the head-turning ability is very necessary, as the owl eyes are tube shaped (not spherical) and are fixed in place so that owls must turn their heads to see in different directions. Owls are also far-sighted, and therefore this ability allows the owl to see its prey far away from the treetop. Another unique feature of the owl is that unlike most birds, its flight is silent, which helps the owl to catch its prey easier. Their feathers are uniquely designed to reduce noise and move without making noise, allowing the owl to fly in silence. The flat face of the owl actually helps hearing, as the flat shape of the face helps capture noise and direct it to the ears. The Intelligent Design of the owl is evident.

Owls are very carnivorous as they eat mostly other animals. Owls will swallow smaller animals whole while they will rip larger animals apart with their powerful claws and eat parts at a time. Some larger owls are known to capture small deer as prey. Another unique feature of owls is their unique camouflage ability, which allows them to blend in with their environment and avoid predators. Many owls have a body color and appearance similar to a tree trunk and as the owl sits on the tree branch next to the trunk, the owl is difficult to see. Owls also have some benefits to humans, as they are known to control the pest population, particularly as owls help out farmers by eating rodents. Owls have historically been viewed differently by different cultures. The ancient Greeks viewed the owl as a symbol of wisdom in addition to a sign of victory in war. Other ancient cultures have viewed the owl as a sign of death, evil, and have attached various superstitions as far back as the time of the Romans. The Aztecs and Mayans also viewed the owl negatively.

Evolutionists claim that all of the features of the owl evolved over millions of years and that the un-camouflaged owls, the owls with lesser flying ability, and the owls with inferior features could not survive and the "more evolved" owls survived to reproduce future generations. This same, faulty interpretation has plagued modern science for hundreds of years. Evolutionists have no proof of this "survival of the fittest" process where the less evolved owls were eaten up. The fossil record shows no sign of this process that evolutionists claim is true. If only evolutionists could see the owl as a unique animal designed and created by an Intelligent Designer 6,000 years ago and that this animal was given exactly what it needed to survive in its environment. Yes, certain owl variations have become extinct and these are seen in the fossil record, but extinction of certain variations does not prove millions of years and does not prove that owls evolved from non-owls.

The elf owl is the smallest owl at 5 inches while the great gray owl can be up to 32 inches tall. Owls are found on every continent except Antarctica. The owl does not migrate but rather stays in its environment year round. While evolutionists classify the owl with the birds, the unique face and head of the owl along with its unique features and behaviors are difficult for evolutionists to explain with traditional evolutionist ideas. Again, as with most animal kinds, evolutionists classify over 200 species of owls to imply millions of years of evolution, however creationists view these "species" as simply genetic variations of the same kind passed down through 6,000 years of time. Starting with the first pair of owls during Creation Week and the pairs preserved during the Flood of Noah, all of the owl species we see today are variations of what was preserved on Noah's Ark during the Flood 4,300 years ago.
