The Parable of the Wise Servant: Matthew 24:45-51

by Owen Borville

Bible

Jesus described the Parable of the Wise Servant to his disciples as recorded in Matthew 24:45-51. In the parable, Jesus described a wise servant who has been given authority by his master over his household until he returns. Therefore, this servant took care of his master's household properly as the master desired and when the master returned, he was very pleased with his servant and placed him over all of his possessions.
In the parable Jesus also describes an evil servant who reasoned that his master was delaying his return and therefore mistreated his master's household and became drunk with wine. The master returned unexpectedly and saw his servant's evil works and therefore severely punished him.

45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? 46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. 47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. 48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; 49 And shall begin to smite his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; 50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, 51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Matthew 24:45-51 KJV.

This parable is meant to represent the Lord God of the Bible and mankind's obligations that God installed by the prophets through the commandments listed in the Bible. God placed his people in charge of the world and expects his people to follow his commandments that were given. One day, the Lord is going to return unexpectedly and observe the activity of mankind. Those who faithfully followed the Lord and His commandments will be rewarded and will be given much more responsibility in the Kingdom of Heaven. Those who did not follow the commandments of God will be severely punished and be separated from God and the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus explained that the Lord will return one day to find his faithful servants and gather them to come to His Kingdom while the unfaithful servants will be left behind and be separated from the Kingdom of Heaven.
