The stone fish is known as one of the most venomous fish in the world and is also a master of disguise, being able to camouflage itself easily. The unique design of this fish is impressive and a testament to a unique Designer.
Their spiny bodies are nearly indistinguishable from the nearby seafloor stones or coral reef. The venom sacs of the stonefish are found inside their dorsal fin spines. These fast moving predators can also survive up to 24 hours out of water. The venom of the stonefish is most lethal to humans and marine animals.
Stonefish are known to be found on beaches especially in the Pacific and Indian Ocean. The stonefish has 13 sharp dorsal fin spines along their back, each armed with two venom glands which release the deadly substance when the fish is disturbed or stepped on. In addition, the stonefish also has two pelvic and three anal spines hidden underneath its thick skin.
The stonefish is known for burrowing inside the sand before catching its next meal in the shallow waters or on the beach. The stone fish is particularly known for how fast it can catch its prey as it camouflages itself or emerges from the sand. The stonefish eats mostly smaller marine fish, shrimp, and crustaceans.
