The Story of Creation Science

The modern creationist movement began in the mid-20th century when qualified scientists began to question the idea of the millions and billions of years proposed by mainstream science. The uniformitarian doctrine of slow, random, and gradual processes throughout millions and billions of years of Earth history had been established in mainstream science for almost 200 years. Creationists and advocates of a young earth also began to examine evidence for the Genesis Flood, particularly the vast layers sedimentary strata found throughout the world believed to have been deposited by this flood and the fossil record found inside the strata. The many erosional features found around the world, including the deep canyons and erosional surfaces give evidence of a catastrophic young earth in contrast to the billions of years of uniformitarian science and advocates of the creationist movement wanted to promote these ideas. The publication of The Genesis Flood by American engineer Henry Morris and American theologian John Whitcomb in 1961 has been mentioned as a major factor in the development of the modern creation science movement, as many continue to refer to this publication more than 50 years later. The mainstream academia does not recognize any such global flood in the history of the earth and is a major difference in the doctrines of origin.

Advocates of creation science and the young earth also began to question the methods mainstream scientists use to assign ages to rocks and fossils, and further research by creationists led to the conclusion that the dating methods of mainstream science are in error. Mainstream scientists examine the radioactive decay of certain chemical elements to determine and assign ages to rocks and fossils. Creationists also continued to study geological, biological, and astronomical processes and have found evidence of a timeline within several thousands of years in contrast to the mainstream science ages of 4.5 billion years for the earth and solar system. Creationists explain that evolutionists and mainstream scientists have not been honest about methods of assigning ages to rock and fossils and that many factors can lead to incorrect ages, such as environmental conditions, contamination, and human error. Ages in the millions and billions of years are crucial for the acceptance of biological macro-evolution proposed by Charles Darwin and others. Therefore, evidence for a young earth is also a serious challenge to biological macro-evolution and the mainstream science establishment.

Likewise, the mainstream science establishment has worked to stop the spread of creation science throughout the last 200 years and the idea of a young earth within the thousands of years. This has been accomplished by controlling the media to discredit the creation science movement and young earth ideas. However, the creation science movement has grown rapidly since the mid-20th century as advances in science have given more evidence for the young earth and creationists have continued to pursue and promote their beliefs. This effort continues today in the creation science movement in opposition to the mainstream establishment in the media. Creationists must must rely on private funding, however as the growth and popularity of creation science has increased, private funding has increased. The emergence of online resources has also greatly helped the creation science movement and has helped reduce the monopoly that mainstream science once had. While mainstream science and evolutionist doctrine continues to have a strong monopoly today, research institutions have grown in recent years outside the mainstream establishment. A growing number of these private institutions support creation science.

A major factor associated with creation science is that it agrees with Biblical scripture and most creation science supporters are also followers of the Christian faith or a monotheistic religion. The mainstream science and academic establishment chooses to remain completely secular and exclude and mention of doctrines that promote or agree with religion. Therefore, mainstream science will not support or promote doctrines that include a young earth timeline in the thousands of years and will only support timelines for the earth and life on earth within the millions and billions of years. The creation science movement wants the public to know that there is an alternative to the millions of years and that there is strong evidence for a young timeline in the thousands of years for the earth and the universe.
